Musings of a Chicago-Born New Yorker

Should I Cross Another State off the List?

The husband has a gig next week in Milwaukee, WI. He wants me to go with him. I’m leaning against going. Part of it is because it’s only a quick trip. He’ll be driving up there, playing, and driving back. That’s a lot of driving for only one day. I don’t want to do that much driving, and I don’t want to spend one of my days off going.

Normally, I’m all for going to one of his gigs, but I’ve never been to an out of town gig that wasn’t in St. Louis. I can’t quite put my finer on my reason for not being completely on board, but I’m trying to sort it out.

Sure I’d have to help drive, but I like driving. Maybe it’s the lack of sleep. Being surrounded by strangers is never a huge amount of fun either.

When I try to think of what’s important, I come up with this:

1) I pride myself on supporting the husband’s music.

2) We could cross Wisconsin off our list.

3) We’ve proven that hopping in a car and driving to a specific destination is actually a good idea.

I guess with all those good reasons to go, I should just go ahead and go. My only reason not to go is that I have a feeling it’s not a good idea. Although I’ve learned to trust my gut instincts, this isn’t exactly a gut instinct. This is probably just laziness.

I guess I’ll let you all know soon enough whether I went.

If you can figure out some legitimate to do with yourself if you don’t go…then don’t go. If you can’t think of anything…go. At least it’ll be a state to cross of the list and you and hubby can have the time in the car to bond.

    • I was trying to figure out if it was instinct or just dread. But the husband is a teacher, and I totally forgot he’s on Spring Break. So it wouldn’t be some rushed day trip, it would be a stay the next day and try whatever is their best of some local favorite dish trip.
